WATER FILTERS
AIR CONTACT ASSEMBLY UNIT
Air contact assemblies are used to add oxygen into the raw water feed. Oxidising the water will allow
for unwanted dissolved contaminants such as iron and manganese to be converted to an insoluble
form which can then be filtered using a media such as Pyrolox Pro or Birm.
Aeration units have the advantage of low maintenance costs and do not require any chemical oxidants
such as potassium permanganate, chlorine or hydrogen peroxide. We strongly recommend any filter
that is used in conjunction with an aeration assembly to be a backwashing unit ensuring particulates
held during treatment are removed from the media and that the filter maintains its removal capacity.
The flow rate of each vessel is dictated by the incoming water quality and feed pressure. Spring valves
are included into the manifold for when units backwash to ensure an adequate volume of water is able
to pass through the system and clean the following vessels.
The raw water pH level dictates the rate of oxidation, with iron ideally requiring a pH of between 7.5 - 8
and manganese a pH level of 8. Levels below this result in a slow oxidation process which will require
a long contact time. For help in sizing the correct aeration unit please contact a member of the Wateq
