CATALYTIC CARBON
Catalytic Carbon is perfect for removing hydrogen sulphide (the rotten egg smell that can sometimes
emanate from boreholes). The carbon still removes the chlorine, taste and odour as it usually would,
but will also grab any hydrogen sulphide within the water.
For the media to work best you will need an air cushion on top of the filter vessel to help oxidise out
the hydrogen sulphide, this can be done with an air intake kit on top of the backwashing control valve.
The media will expire in roughly 12 months of use, even with effective backwashing, so will need to
be replaced on a yearly basis.

ANTHRACITE
Anthracite is a naturally occurring coal that has been used in water treatment since ancient times.
When crushed it makes an excellent medium density filtration media for turbidity removal. Because of
the shape of the media and the angular nature of it, it allows turbidity to penetrate the filter bed
deeper, meaning long bed life before it reaches capacity.
Because of the density of the media, it can be combined with other filter medias and used in
multimedia filters to great effect. Examples of this would be with filter sand and gravel, to create many
levels of turbidity removal.
